Sometimes it can feel like the world is against us. Trying to get ahead only feeling like we are falling behind. I’ll tell you a little secret about this world. Even if you think or feel like it is holding you back from doing what you really love, it actually is trying to help you. There is one catch, however. You have to be willing to work through some things… It may not be easy, but don’t they say that good or even great things don’t come easy?
You will probably start by having some experiences which will teach you about what you want. Some of them you may like, love, or even hate. ALL of them matter. Why? Because we can sometimes learn more through what we dislike doing versus what we like doing. You may even start off pursuing one route and change directions, to then go back to the original course you were pursuing. All of that is okay and is part of the journey. Sometimes we need many experiences and redirections to show us what we truly value. To show us what we truly want. So here are the secrets to getting to do your dream work;
Sometimes it’s about what you fear most, what we want the most can seem the scariest to us because of the things we might have to do to get there. If you ask me risk is success’s middle name and if it’s for your passion, it’s totally worth it. So face whatever truth it is that you need to face to start moving forward. When your fears stop controlling your life, the power is in your hands. The Universe won’t deprive you of your dream work, the only person who can stand in the way of it – is you.
Not the values of your friends or your parents. You may share many values in common with these people, but sometimes certain values need to be pushed to the side or need to be unlearned. For example, if your parents highly value the educational system and you decide to pursue your passion in a way they find “unconventional” then, this will come into conflict with what you truly value; your passion. Or perhaps, others see you pursuing your passion as risky and think you should stay on more of a secure path or at your secure job. You have to be strong and willing to stick to your values. After all, if you aren’t living by what you truly value than what are you living for? Someone else?
What does that mean? It means you need to figure out what you absolutely want to do. Not what you want to be. What you want to do. What do you want to do day in and day out? Don’t give me the job title or the specific position you want. Tell me what you want to do? That is where your answer lies to what you truly value. Now you can see what paths fit with that versus the job titles that don’t fit.
Always push forward and when things feel like they are not working, change your approach. You may just hear about something which fits with what you want but, if you have tunnel vision on your future, you’ll miss out on the amazing opportunities the world is wanting to offer you. Sometimes it is something we hear about in a conversation which makes us curious or a person we meet who has the same goals and dreams. So look and listen to what is going on around you, it is your guidance.
That doesn’t mean you won’t get what you want. It just means that the world is going to offer what holds the most value and what is most authentic to you. You’ll likely get what you dreamed of doing in ways you didn’t expect.
So finally, an answer. The only thing which can keep you from your dream job is you but, if you do all this hard work, I promise the world won’t deny you of the work you love. I promise it’ll be worth the risk, the hardships, the redirections, and feeling like you want to throw in the towel. If I have learned one thing it is that the world definitely has your back. You’re already one step ahead of where I was, you have all the secrets I learned in the process. So do yourself a favor and keep these secrets in mind. Especially, when you feel like throwing in the towel. The world birthed you with purpose, your purpose is directly tied to your passion, so why would it deprive you of it?
